The city of Lausraum was bustling with life as the sun rose above the high city walls. The entirety of the formidable city was surrounded with stone and metal walls that were used primarily to keep aggressive wildlife out. Though, lately, the walls may have been protecting against demons as well; here and there in the town, citizens would exchange stories about the rumors they had heard: "The other night Mr. Nakiln lost some Aki..." "Have you hear about what happened to Hisa? They say her aura was corrupted..."
Many fear-inducing rumors circulated throughout Lausraum, auch as how one of Exilus' Reapers may be in Hallowa, but in general, the city was well protected. The outer layers of the city were mostly militaristic battlements with some farms here and there, which provided a nice barrier for the inner city folk. Going to from the outskirts to the center of the city one would see an abrupt change, as the inner city was what could be considered wealthy by Hallowan standards. Service drones floated through the air, arm terminals could be found on even the lowliest citizen, and the sheer amount of people was daunting.
The inner city consisted mainly of four sections; there was the industrial district, which was all factories and construction, but served as the economical backbone of Lausraum; then came the residential district, which could be found sandwiched inbetween the industrial district and the guild district. The latter was the area in which all of the guilds of the city were situated; It was a very popular spot for the adventurous sort. Finally, the inner-most part of Lausraum, called the heart of the city, was a mercantile district, consisting of bazaars, restaurants, and prestigious shops of all sorts. While the heart was mainly a tourist attraction, not even a native could deny it's usefulness; Anything one could want could be found there.
As so it happened, that morning Kuraharu found himself craving a traditional Hallowan pastry, and so decided he would head to the heart at the break of dawn. As he woke up in the shabby inn he crashed in last night, Kuraharu began to think of his present situation. He came to Hallowa with his friend, Barong, from the Abyssial continent of Siethe. Kuraharu had intended to earn a living as a mercenary; back in his homeland, he had often heard stories from Barong about how fruitful that business was in Lausraum.
"Fruitful, my ass!" Kuraharu grunted, pulling himself to a sitting position. For the past couple months, he had been able to keep a stable income from the guild's open quests, but recently the money had started to wane. There was just no room for freelancers who didn't have the stamp of a Guild. Kuraharu sighed. Maybe he would join up; members dorms had to be better than this dump, anyway. He finally pulled himself out of bed and began to dress in his black cloak. Kuraharu wore his armor as well, which was unusual, but he didn't feel as if he was going to come back to the dingy inn, so he took all of his belongings. Then, he looked over at the bed next to him and the lump of blankets sound asleep atop it.
"Hey Barong, I'm gonna go grab a pastry. Wanna come with?" Kuraharu said.
