Per Alex's "request", I shall be posting excerpts from my (approved) Bastion novel-in-progress here. Mostly, they shall be dialogue quotes, and I will not be giving the background of the quote (to prevent spoilers). The excerpts will also vary in size and be chronologically randomized.
Excerpts are subject to change between their posting here and the finalization of any draft.

"I had hoped to find you without audience, Your Grace. However, it seems that I must come to you publicly as this evening's agent of chaos," he paused for a moment, letting the screams of terror rise from the audience as they eventually rose and clambered past him to the great doors. As the great house emptied and only he and his mark remained, he muttered, just audibly, "You best pray to whatever deity that they welcome you into their bosom, for the hour in which you are freed of this mortal coil is now."

"A great thirst hangs over you, but it is not born of gluttony. It is born instead...," he paused for a moment, as if contemplating over the word. "...of necessity? Ah, so you are like Dirgeis!"
A feeling of pleasure eminated from the faceless demon as his head cocked to the side slightly. The red light emitting from the constantly setting orb on the horizon glinted off of his blank feature for a moment as he moved forward. "Though you are more complex than Dirgeis. It was created as it is now: a great siphon. But you... You were contorted," one of his right hands clenched into a tight fist as he said the word. "Your abilities given not as a gift, but a dreadful curse upon your finite existence." His tone then became one of mocking melancholy as he went on, "It shall forever torment your once normal life... with her. Poor thing..."
